Kathy Kirkpatrick will speak on Italian Concentration Camps During World War II

Kathy Kirkpatrick earned her B.A. in History from Humboldt State University at Arcata, California. Ms. Kirkpatrick is a past president of the Salt Lake Chapter (now the Utah chapter) of the Association of Professional Genealogists. She is currently President of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Utah.

The fifty-seven known locations of Concentration Camps run by Fascists in Italy, more or less in cooperation with the German Nazis, were usually smaller than the Camps we are familiar with in the rest of Europe. They also ran a range from one death camp to work camps to one camp recently described as the “anti-Auschwitz” camp because of the care given to Jewish prisoners there. The camp locations and stories are presented, with an emphasis on the positive experiences in this dark time in history. Photos of the camps and prisoners, stories of their experiences, and documentation are included in the presentation with guidance to the archives which contain the sources.
