Call to Meeting – February 27

Welcome to a new year, genealogists.

Utah JGS will be starting off the year with a presentation by Daniel Horowitz, the Genealogy Expert at MyHeritage, teaching us how to Prepare for a Cemetery Trip (Search, Photo, and Index).

Our meeting will be on February 27th, a week later than usual, to take place the day before RootsTech. We will meet at 6:30pm at the Family History Library. (The room assignment isn’t set you; we’ll let you know.)

Don’t forget that a new year means that dues is due. You can pay in person at the meeting by cash, check, or credit card, or online with credit card via Square. Visit our online store or log in to the members only section of our web site for a link.

See you soon.

Call to Meeting – November 21

Hello genealogists. It’s time for the last meeting of the year for UJGS.

We’ll be having our elections at this meeting. Would you like to help your society more? Do you have ideas? We’d love to hear them and we’d love for you to volunteer as an officer or a board member. Or come and vote for who you’d like to lead.

We will be meeting at the Family History Library at 6:30pm in the B2 classroom on Tuesday. Come join us to decide our future as a society and talk about, or get help with, your genealogy.

Call to Meeting – September 19

Happy Rosh Hashanah!

Our next meeting is Tuesday, September 19th, at 6:30pm in the B2 classroom of the Family History Library.

To finish off the Jewish year, we are going to watch a documentary about the Jews of Clarion, Utah. Come learn about this interesting community, folks who came out to Utah to be farmers just over a century ago. Some of their descendents still live in Utah and in the Salt Lake City area.

See you there!

Call to Meeting – August 22

The next Utah JGS meeting will be on August 22nd at 6:30pm at the Family History Library in the classroom on B2.

Our presenter will be Joshua Perlman, a genealogist at Ancestry ProGenealogists. He will be talking to us about Tips for Using Ancestry.

Ancestry is available for free at the Family History Library, so all of our members have easy access to those databases. Come learn more about how better to use that site for your research.

Call to Meeting – May 16

Sorry for the late reminder, but we have a UJGS meeting coming up this Tuesday, May 16th, at 6:30pm, in the B2 classroom at the Family History Library.

Since last month’s viewing of the keynote from the IAJGS conference in Seattle was a hit, we will be watching another session from the conference. The session has not yet been chosen yet, so you’ll have to show up to find out which one. Maybe we’ll let our attendees choose.

See you soon.

Call to Meeting – April 18

Our next meeting will be next Tuesday at 6:30pm in the B2 level classroom of the Family History Library.

We will be viewing the keynote lecture from the IAJGS conference in Seattle last summer. If you’d like to get a taste of what happens at the conference every year, this is your chance.

As always, feel free to bring some genealogy work to do, along with any questions in your research you’d like help with.

See you next week.

Call to Meeting – March 21

Our next meeting will be next Tuesday, March 21st, at 6:30pm, in the classroom on the B2 floor at the Family History Library.

Todd Knowles will present to us about Beginning Jewish research.

There is always time after our meetings for your personal research, so bring something to work on or bring your questions and we’ll try to help.

See you soon.

Call to Meeting – February 21

The new year is upon us and it’s time to make this Society strong again. To do this we need to gather together Tuesday night, February 21st in the classroom on the British Floor (B2) of the Family History Library. We would like to take this opportunity to plan the upcoming year and have an open discussion on where we are headed and how best to get there.

Please take the time to join us. We need everyone.

We’d also like to remind you that dues for 2017 is due by the first meeting of the year. You may pay in person or online. We have switched to Square so please do not make a payment to our old Paypal account. With Square, you may pay online or in person by credit card. You will find a link to our Square Storefront here or when you log in to the Members Only section of our web site.

Call to Meeting – November 15

Next Tuesday, November 15th, at 6:30pm, in the classroom of the B2 floor of the Family History Library, come join us for our final meeting of 2016.

Kahlile Mehr will be presenting Jewish Records in the Zabuzianskie Collection of the Polish State Historical Archive. This is an archive located in Warsaw which holds records for locations that were formerly in Galicia.

Join us to learn more about this archive and, as always, to do some of your own research at the FHL.

Call to Meeting – October 22

By request of some of our members (and some scheduling issues), we are trying something different for this month’s meeting. Instead of third Tuesday, we will be meeting on Saturday, October 22nd, from 1-4pm. And instead of a scheduled speaker, we will take up a position near the entrance of the second floor of the Family History Library to help our members and guests with their genealogy research.

Parking is free all day Saturday in the lot behind the museum. Bring some research to work on and we’ll see how we can help. Beginners are also welcome. We’re happy to show people how to use the vast array of materials available to us at the FHL.

With our apologies to any religious Jewish members, but we’re not aware that we have any at this time.

See you next weekend!
